Managing surface water is a planning requirement on most new developments. We design and install attenuation tanks that control the rate water enters the drainage network, helping developments meet SuDS and local authority requirements.
We predominantly cover Wales and the border counties (Cheshire, Shropshire & Herefordshire), but will travel further afield where required.
An attenuation tank is an underground storage system that holds surface water runoff during heavy rainfall and releases it back into the drainage network at a controlled rate, rather than letting it all discharge at once. It’s a core part of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), and is typically required as a planning condition on new developments to prevent the extra hard surfacing from overwhelming local sewers and watercourses.
Tanks are usually built from modular geocellular crates or large-diameter pipework, sized to match the site’s runoff and the discharge rate set by the local authority or water company.
This is predominantly a new-build and development service. We work with property developers, main contractors and self-builders to get attenuation right from the design stage, either as a standalone package or as part of a wider turnkey groundworks and drainage solution. Getting the tank sized and positioned correctly early avoids costly redesign or delays further into the build programme.
Most new developments with additional hard surfacing need some form of SuDS, and attenuation is often part of that. Requirements vary by local authority. We can advise based on your specific site and planning conditions.
Sizing depends on the site’s expected runoff volume and the discharge rate set by the local authority or water company, alongside ground conditions and site layout constraints.
Yes, modular systems can be specified to handle trafficked loads, so tanks can sit beneath parking areas, driveways or access roads without taking up additional land.
We can provide as-built documentation and technical detail to support your planning submission or Building Control approval, working alongside your design team where one’s already involved.
