Our OFTEC registered engineers are on hand to assist with you heating oil tank and diesel tank needs.
Whether you need a new heating oil tank installed, dispensing equipment fitted, an old tank replaced, or a leak made safe right now, we provide a full range of oil and diesel tank services for domestic, commercial and agricultural customers, including all the civils and groundworks that go with it, in-house.
We predominantly cover North Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire & Gloucestershire.
Please note that we do not sell heating oil

We supply and install bunded and steel bunded oil and diesel tanks, complete with dispensing equipment and gauges where your site needs to dispense fuel rather than just store it. A bunded tank has a second, outer skin that contains any leak from the inner tank, preventing it from reaching the ground, drains or a nearby watercourse – a requirement in most locations under current Oil Storage Regulations.
At SMIP, we supply and install fire rated tanks by industry leading brands like Tuffa and Envirostore.
If your tank is more than 20 years old, showing signs of corrosion, or simply no longer compliant with current regulations, replacement is usually more cost-effective than repeated repairs. We install to OFTEC standards and current Building Regulations, including correct siting, fire separation distances, and bunding where required.
Installing a tank properly isn’t just the tank itself. It’s the base it sits on, the bunding around it, and often wider yard work to get the site ready. We handle all of this in-house as part of the installation, rather than bringing in a separate groundworks contractor: constructing the base, building or installing bunding, and carrying out any associated yard work needed to get the site compliant and ready for the tank.
We can make it safe the same day!
Call us today! A leak can quickly become a pollution incident, and the longer it’s left, the more it can cost to put right. We will pump your oil out to make it safe the same day, and can replace it with a new tank as soon as the following day.
Regular servicing catches small problems like corrosion, worn seals, gauge or valve faults, before they become leaks or system failures.
We’d recommend an annual service in line with OFTEC guidance, particularly important if you’ve recently moved into a property and inherited a system you don’t know the history of.

Over time, tanks accumulate sludge, condensation and contamination – a particular problem for tanks that are only partially filled for long periods, or that have sat unused. This build-up can clog filters, damage boilers and generators, and in colder weather, water in the fuel can cause the whole system to stop working when you need it most.
Tank cleaning removes sludge and debris from the base and walls of the tank.
Fuel polishing filters the fuel itself, removing water, sediment and microbial contamination (sometimes called “diesel bug”) so the existing fuel can be reused rather than drained and disposed of – a more cost-effective option than a full fuel changeout in most cases.

Get in touch straight away. We provide a same-day response to make the tank safe and contain any spill, so it doesn’t spread further or reach a drain or watercourse.
Yes, we install and service both oil and diesel tanks for domestic, commercial and agricultural customers.
Both have a second, outer skin designed to contain a leak from the inner tank. We can advise on the right specification for your site and the volume of fuel you’re storing.
Yes, where a site needs to dispense fuel rather than just store it, we fit dispensing equipment and gauges as part of the installation.
Yes, all civils work, including tank bases, bunding and any associated yard work, is carried out in-house as part of the installation.
OFTEC recommends an annual service and inspection to catch issues early and keep your system compliant.
Tank cleaning removes sludge and debris from inside the tank itself. Fuel polishing filters the fuel to remove water and contamination so it can be reused, rather than drained and replaced.
